Robotics Fashion Laboratory

Date: 2023

Architect/Designer: Bennetts Associates

Structural Engineer: Spark Structures

Location: Manchester University

Designed by Bennetts Associates for Manchester Fashion Institute at Manchester Metropolitan University. The pavilion provides a space for designers and manufacturers to create more sustainable fashion manufacturing with the aid of robotic technology.

The project champions UK-based materials and construction methods as a means of reducing upfront embodied carbon. Timber Workshop supplied and installed a UK Douglas fir timber frame roof structure, sitting on top of straw-insulated wall panels. The waffle styled soffit is jointed to hide all fixings. The ceiling is sheathed in a doubled layer of Douglas Fir plywood.
